When House Wall Waterproofing Is Needed

The porous structure of concrete and masonry absorbs soil, surface, and atmospheric moisture and transfers it in all directions. Soil water, sewage water, and even tap water are all chemically aggressive. They wash lime out of concrete, reducing its strength, and cause mold and dampness inside buildings. Moisture is even more dangerous in winter — as it soaks in and freezes, it expands and cracks the stone.

Atmospheric moisture can penetrate through joints, seams, and utility entry points. Groundwater can rise up through walls due to capillary action. For example, in waterlogged soil, moisture will soak into an unprotected foundation and walls up to ground level.

For a building owner, this means regular spending on repairs. Wall waterproofing can help prevent unnecessary expenses. It is classified into vertical and horizontal, penetrating, coating, spray-applied, and plaster types. Specialists most often combine several types of waterproofing to protect a structure from moisture infiltration.

How Wall Waterproofing Installation Work Is Carried Out

Horizontal Waterproofing

Horizontal waterproofing of walls is usually carried out during construction, after the foundation has been laid. The main goal is to block moisture at the plinth level. The foundation is covered on top with a roll material or composite bitumen mastic. The plinth and walls are then built or installed.

Horizontal waterproofing of already-built structures is carried out using water-repellent compounds — hydrophobizers. The walls are either injected to block the capillaries, or a horizontal cut (slot) is made and filled with a protective compound.

Vertical Waterproofing

Vertical waterproofing of walls prevents moisture from entering or escaping through the surface. It does not stop capillary rise along the height of the wall.

Walls are waterproofed vertically using:

treatment with penetrating compounds or surface-applied mastics and spray-on liquids

application of roll-based membrane materials

installation of plaster systems based on cement and water-repellent polymers

Important to Remember

Exterior treatment of a brick facade begins with the removal of efflorescence using salt-neutralizing solutions. The facade is then washed with pressurized water and sprayed twice with a water-repellent siloxane or polyurethane solution.

When treating a natural stone facade, the process is limited to washing and impregnation with hydrophobizers.

Signing of the Contract

After the technical and commercial proposal (KP) is agreed upon, we sign the contract. We start work upon receipt of an advance payment. We accept both cash and non-cash payments, with or without VAT

Execution of Works

We mobilize equipment, materials, and manpower, and begin waterproofing or reinforcement works

Acceptance and Payment

You inspect the quality of the completed work and, after signing the acceptance certificate, pay the remaining balance under the contract

What warranty do you provide for completed works?

The warranty for any type of waterproofing is 2 years. For injection waterproofing and foundation reinforcement, the warranty is up to 5 years.

Why is injection waterproofing needed?

Injection waterproofing helps to interrupt capillary flow and reduce the permeability of foundations, walls, and floor slabs. Injections of polyurethane gel (works on concrete), polyurethane resin (works on concrete and precast structures), and silicon-siloxane compounds (work on brickwork and precast structures) prevent moisture from being absorbed into the structural materials and improve the waterproofing properties of buildings.
