Why Reservoir Waterproofing Is Needed

Water reservoirs for various purposes are most often made of metal or concrete. Due to constant contact with liquid, both materials begin to deteriorate — metal corrodes, while concrete starts to crumble. This deterioration is critical, especially if the underground or above-ground tank is used to store drinking water.

Tanks containing both drinking and process water must also be protected on the outside or inside, including all utility entry points.

Water is an aggressive environment. Without proper waterproofing, it leads to the deterioration of metal, concrete, or brick.

How Reservoir Waterproofing Is Done

PVC polymer films, bitumen-polymer compositions, and so-called liquid rubber are used for reservoir waterproofing. Each material has its own advantages, but the choice depends on the type of structure, the area of the surface to be waterproofed, and the aggressiveness of the groundwater.

Polymer films used for reservoir waterproofing are called geomembranes. They vary in density, thickness, and texture. Manufacturers produce this material in rolls or sheets ranging from 0.3 to 3 cm thick. Sheet material is more convenient for waterproofing concrete reservoirs.

The main advantages of geomembranes are their high elasticity, which is maintained throughout their entire service life (25 years or more). In addition, this material does not release toxic substances, which means it can be used for waterproofing wells containing drinking water.

Bitumen-polymer compositions are suitable for waterproofing reservoirs containing water and process fluids. This material forms an even layer on the treated surfaces and creates a strong adhesive bond. The composition retains its physical and chemical properties even when exposed to UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, and aggressive environments.

Liquid rubber is similar in appearance and application method to the previous material, but differs in composition. Liquid rubber is a bitumen-latex polymer compound applied by spraying. This material is suitable for waterproofing concrete reservoirs of various purposes, pools, and hydraulic engineering structures.

What Affects the Cost of the Work

Only an engineer can determine the cost of waterproofing water reservoirs and fire hydrant tanks.

A specialist will inspect the structure, take the necessary measurements, and recommend materials that fit your budget.

Submit a request for a callback from our manager. You can arrange the date and time for our engineer's site visit with our specialist, and find out the exact cost of waterproofing your reservoir.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What warranty do you provide for completed works?

The warranty for any type of waterproofing is 2 years. For injection waterproofing and foundation reinforcement, the warranty is up to 5 years.

    Why is injection waterproofing needed?

Injection waterproofing helps to interrupt capillary flow and reduce the permeability of foundations, walls, and floor slabs. Injections of polyurethane gel (works on concrete), polyurethane resin (works on concrete and precast structures), and silicon-siloxane compounds (work on brickwork and precast structures) prevent moisture from being absorbed into the structural materials and improve the waterproofing properties of buildings.
