Why Injection Waterproofing Is Needed

Soil moisture, atmospheric moisture, and condensation are deceptively harmful. They penetrate microscopic pores in cement and concrete, spreading through capillaries in all directions, altering the material's chemical composition and physical properties. In doing so, moisture washes lime out of concrete, cement, and brick. Concrete becomes brittle, and its load-bearing capacity decreases. It flakes and crumbles down to the reinforcement bar. Brick also crumbles and cracks, especially during frost. Wet stains and toxic black mold appear on the walls and floors of such spaces. Plaster and paint peel off, wallpaper won't stay in place, and unplanned repairs become necessary.

Injection waterproofing helps to interrupt capillary flow and reduce the permeability of foundations, walls, and floor slabs. Injections of polyurethane gel (works on concrete), polyurethane resin (works on concrete and precast structures), and silicon-siloxane compounds (work on brickwork and precast structures) prevent moisture from being absorbed into the structural materials and improve the waterproofing properties of buildings.

How Injection Waterproofing Work Is Carried Out

The sooner structures are isolated from moisture absorption from the soil and surrounding environment,
the less money will need to be spent on repairs, and the longer their service life will be.

Injection Technology

The engineer assesses the condition of the concrete, performs calculations, and marks the locations on the walls, plinth, and foundation for the placement of packers. These are technical holes up to 12 mm in diameter used for injecting the solution. The standard spacing is 12–15 cm.
After this, workers install the packers in the center
The engineer injects the solution into the packers using a screw pump at a pressure of 300–400 atmospheres.
The packers are removed, and the injection points are sealed with a cement-based sealant.

Materials

Polyurethane and epoxy resins, along with organosilicon compounds, are used as the working materials for injection waterproofing. These materials provide excellent waterproofing, increase the structural strength, and improve the building's thermal insulation properties.

For example, polyurethane compounds are flexible and bond well even to damp surfaces. They easily withstand further building settlement and recover after any deforming loads. Polyurethane seals and insulates cracks, joints, and packer holes

Organosilicon compounds (silicones, siloxanes, etc.) have excellent penetrating ability, withstand temperature fluctuations well, and are resistant to mold.

However, before selecting the optimal waterproofing material, it's necessary to thoroughly examine the site, identify leak locations and the extent of structural damage, and develop a work plan. This approach ensures the waterproofing is completed on time and within budget.

What Determines the Cost of Services

Waterproofing begins with engineering calculations of loads and load-bearing capacity of the walls and foundation, assessment of the foundation's condition and soil type, evaluation of water pressure intensity, and design planning. In addition, the following factors must be taken into account:

  • viscosity of the selected compound;
  • spacing between injection holes;
  • structure of the base material;
  • purpose and operating conditions of the structure.
